Calabasas Peak

Calabasas Peak

Here is another hike from Calabasas, CA. This is a moderately-trafficked trail.

There is a dirt turnout on Stunt Road across from the trailhead for parking. This turnout is also used for Stunt High Trail parking so it can get crowded later in the morning. However, if you plan to start hiking before 9 AM, you should be able to find parking pretty easily.

There is a porta-potty provided by Mountains Restoration Trust behind the metal gate next to the turnout.

After parking, cross Stunt Road and begin hiking on Calabasas Peak Mtwy. This hike is on the fire road so it’s good for a group hike.

In early February, wildflowers started to bloom already.

Parts of the trail were still in the shade early in the morning. Lovely.

When you come to this junction, go straight and stay on the Calabasas Peak Mtwy.

At the 1.9-mile mark, the fire road splits again. Look for a use trail leading up to a hill on your left. Take that trail to the peak. There was a cairn when we were there.

That wonderful feeling of accomplishment at the peak

The 360-degree view from the top was not bad either. 😉

You can either go back down the way you came up or take the shortcut to the Calabasas Peak Mtwy. There are no signs for these use trails but it’s hard to get lost here. You will have no problem making out the trails from the peak. We took the shortcut.

When you meet up with the fire road, turn right and backtrack to the trailhead.

This is definitely not a hike for the warm weather with your doggo. Take plenty of water and do it early in the morning as the trail is exposed.
