Whatever Wednesday: I Feel Like A Badass

Let’s talk about fitness. I always loved doing cardio because I can do it outside. First, it was walking then it was road running and now hiking. If I can do it outside, it never feels like I am exercising because I am exploring places and that always makes me happy. There is no better motivation.

I’ve tried different strength training exercises over the years but nothing stuck. I found them boring after couple tries. Practice may make it perfect but repetition makes it boring. So I always had no upper body strength. Now that I am in my 40s, it became ever more important that I need to include strength training in my fitness routine.

Last month, March 5th to be exact, I got serious and decided to give a pushup its 10th try. I chose the pushup because you can do it anywhere and you work with your body weight. I learned different forms of pushups and when I tried, I was surprised that I was able to do 6 girly (knees on the floor) wide-grip pushups!

Next day, I did 4 sets of 6 pushups throughout the day. For a month, I did girly wide-grip pushups 5 days/week and kept a daily journal to record the progress. The change was mind-blowing. I was able to do 100 pushups a day by the end of the month. On a whim, on 4/5 I tried a regular wide-grip pushup with my knees off the floor. What da heck, I thought. To my surprise, I was able to do 10-10-11 pushups! YESSSS, ME!!!!!! So rad!

I am still doing wide-grip pushups 5 days a week. Since then I also included triangle pushups to my routine to focus on the triceps now that my shoulders feel stronger. It makes me feel like a badass! I know if I can do this, so can you!! It really is never too late to start something new! If you have something you’ve been wanting to try but need an extra encouragement to get started, let me know! The positive energy is contagious!

xoxo~

  1. Congrats badass! Keep on push’in, it only gets better. Stick with it and make it routine. It’s all good!

    1. Hahaha, thanks, Mike!! I am surprised how fast my body started showing the results of the work I was putting in. With this kind of feedback, I will be sure to keep it up. It feels wonderful to feel strong! Yeah!
