Birthday Hike

My baby turned 6 exactly a week go! I took a day off from work so we can celebrate it with our friends in the mountains. We hiked to one of our favorite peaks in the Angeles National Forest. Josephine Peak. We tried a new route from the Colby Canyon trailhead and loved it! This is going to be our go-to route for Josephine going forward. Colby canyon was dry yet still so beautiful and peaceful. I can’t wait to go back after a good rain.

Xena enjoys views when we hike but sometimes… this girl challenges my fear of heights. I have to hold my breath until she moves away from the edge so I don’t turn her into being fearful. That view though… I get it.

Colby Canyon leads you to Josephine Saddle. There, you take Josephine Peak trail (fire road) to the peak.

Everyone enjoyed special birthday treats (dehydrated chicken feet and such) and participated in a group photo before heading down.

There were several water holes near the trailhead. We made sure to make a stop there before leaving Colby Canyon.

  1. Looks like a really great hike, and it looks like Xena and her friends enjoyed it as well. Dehydrated chicken feet? How do they compare to regular chicken feet? That sounds like a really dumb question, but I’d guess the dehydrated variety is easier to eat -maybe for old people, or dogs! 😉

    1. It’s one of my favorite hikes in the Angeles National Forest! It’s 8 miles of fun and beautiful. Yes Xena and her friends had a great time on the trail. Re dehydrated chicken feet, haha, it’s dried and crunchy. Pups loved it!

  2. Omg that group dog picture! This is such a fun way to celebrate a doggy birthday. I might have to do this for my dog, he loves hiking more than anything!
