Finding Calm and Clarity in Times of Transition

It’s a relief to know the Hurst Fire is now 100% contained, and there’s encouraging progress on the Eaton Fire (65% contained) and the Palisades Fire (31% contained). Fingers crossed for continued success in containing these fires.
Wildfires take an emotional toll on every Angeleno, whether directly impacted or not. For those directly affected, the trauma is exponentially greater. When the entire LA County received that erroneous Evacuation Warning, we all got a glimpse of what it might feel like to face such uncertainty. My heart goes out to everyone impacted by these fires.
The uncertainty during those first few days reminded me of the emotions from the early days of the COVID outbreak and quarantine. I guess I’ve been carrying that trauma. It’s a reminder that these experiences can stay with us, even if we think we’ve moved past them. In moments like these, it’s completely normal to feel anxious, powerless, overwhelmed, or unsure about what to focus on. How do you manage stress during such times?

Navigating Transitions and Embracing Change

Maybe you’re not an Angeleno but are going through a transition in your life. Whether the change is big or small, transitions often bring anxiety. The unknown can feel like a scary place, and it’s hard to always stay positive. This doesn’t make us weak—it makes us human.
Change itself isn’t inherently bad. It’s how we handle it that defines whether the experience is positive or negative. While we may not control the change or its outcome, we can control how we respond. What if we shifted our perspective? What if, instead of seeing change as a loss, we saw it as an opportunity to grow?

Nature Has Healing Power

Walking in nature helps clear your mind and sweep away mental clutter. As David J. Schwartz said, “Action cures fear.” That phrase struck a chord with me the first time I heard it—it’s so simple yet so true.
Try hiking in the woods. It will bring you the inner peace and calm you seek. It will ground you, give you clarity, and offer a fresh perspective. Hiking will re-ignite your energy, make your soul happy, and inspire you to take the next step.
Time and again, hiking has been my sanctuary—my church and my therapy. That’s what I wish for you.
Whether you opt for an intimate small-group hike or a private hike for serenity and healing, you’ll be amazed at how refreshed and inspired you feel.
Wherever you are, take care, and be well.
xx, Jamie
