Nothing is more frustrating than to find out the road to your hiking destination is closed when you get to the mountains and you have no cell phone reception to find an alternative route or an alternative hiking option.
I try to be prepared as much as I can before leaving home so I can enjoy the hiking adventure without unnecessary stress. We don’t live close to the mountains. A road trip is part of the hiking day.
One of the things I check as part of planning is the county road closure list. Each county has its own road closure website. Here are 3 counties I have bookmarked in my browser.
I hate to find the road is closed after driving 1.5 – 2 hours early in the morning. That has happened to me a couple of times even after I looked up the info the night before. I changed the plan then and headed for an alternative hiking option I had as a backup.
What sources do you rely on when planning?
